PUTTY HILL FRANÇAIS

Bonjour tout le monde—

Just wanted to give everyone a head’s up about PUTTY HILL’s release here in France today. We’re very proud and excited to be screening in Paris and elsewhere on brand new 35mm prints, which look fantastic and do extreme justice to Jeremy’s cinematography. All this is thanks to our French distributors, E.D. Distribution, who have been plugging the film here like crazy. For now it’s been booked in at least 30 theatres across the country, with more to come when the reviews start pouring in.

Speaking of, so far the local press has been more than enthusiastic, with terrific reviews in major newspapers like Le Monde and Libération, as well as major film magazines like Première, StudioCineLive and the illustrious Cahiers du Cinéma. Below are a few quotes from the best of them:

“PUTTY HILL is a powerful film, revealing a world in all its geographical, cultural, social, spiritual and emotional richness.” *** (out of 3) – Le Monde

“One of the finest examples of contemporary cinema to hit our screens. A beautiful film.” – Libération

“An authentic, imaginary chronicle of bittersweet desperation.” **** (out of 5); Top 5 films of the monthStudioCinéLive

“Probably the most original independent film of the year.” *** (out of 4) Première

“The victory of PUTTY HILL is in how it uses its narrative device to explore the living tissue of a community.”Cahiers du Cinéma

There should be more reviews posted/published throughout the week, as well as a bunch of interviews with Matt, who was in town to promote the film in late August. It was a fun five days, which included a talk with Cahiers du Cinéma critic Florence Maillard at the store Colette, where a temporary PUTTY HILL installation by art director Sophie Toporkoff was on view. The premiere screening was held at the Georges Méliès cinema in Montreuil (just outside Paris), where the film played to a packed and highly receptive audience.

More special screenings, some of them accompanied by French critic Emmanuel Burdeau, will take place throughout France in the coming weeks, so please tell all your friends/family/contacts over here to check it out.

A big merci to the fun and hardworking Manuel, Fabrice and Natacha of E.D., as well as to all who helped make PUTTY HILL happen – wish you were here!

Amitiés,

Jordan
